The 8 oz non woven geotextile fabric, also known as 8 oz geotextile fabric, 8 oz non woven geotextile, 8 oz non woven geotextile filter fabric, is a durable geotechnical material extensively employed as a separation barrier between rock and soil, while still permitting water flow. This nonwoven geotextile fabric is commonly used in various applications such as drainage systems, road construction, weed control, and filtration processes.

As the leading geotextile manufacturer and supplier, BPM Geosynthetics offers non woven geotextile fabric with thickness in 2 oz, 4 oz, 6 oz, and 8 oz. The 8 oz non woven geotextile is the heavy duty and most common geotextile fabric used in various applications, particularly in civil engineering and construction projects.

1. What Is 8 oz Non Woven Geotextile Fabric?

8 oz non woven geotextile fabric is the kind of widely used geosynthetic material which is usually made from polypropylene and polyester fibers and processed by woven, needle punched or heat bonded methods.

8 oz geotextile fabric acts as a separation layer between rock and soil while allowing water to pass through. This heavy-duty fabric, also referred to as 8 oz geotextile fabric or 8 oz non woven geotextile filter fabric, provides several benefits.

8 oz non woven geotextile fabric can prevent the mixing of different materials, ensuring the stability and integrity of structures. It also facilitates proper water drainage, preventing the accumulation of water and potential damage to the soil. The fabric is commonly used in drainage systems, road construction, weed control, and filtration applications.

The 8 oz non woven geotextile fabric is known for its strength, tear resistance, and permeability. It is non-biodegradable, meaning it does not degrade over time, making it a long-lasting solution for various projects. Additionally, the fabric is needle-punched, providing added reinforcement and stability.

2. What Are Benifits of 8 oz Non Woven Geotextile Fabric?

8 oz non woven geotextile fabric provides multiple benefits in terms of strength, drainage, erosion prevention, puncture resistance, soil separation, reinforcement, and isolation. These qualities make it an ideal choice for various civil engineering and construction applications.

2.1 Superior strength and dimensional stability

8 oz non woven geotextile fabric offers high tensile strength and maintains its shape and structure under various loads and conditions. It provides multiple benefits in terms of strength, drainage, erosion prevention, puncture resistance, soil separation, reinforcement, and isolation. These qualities make it an ideal choice for various civil engineering and construction applications.

2.2 Excellent drainage function

The fabric creates drainage channels within the soil, allowing water to flow through while preventing soil particles from passing through. This helps in effective water management and prevents soil erosion.

2.3 Prevention of erosion

The non woven geotextile fabric stabilizes and limits the displacement of soil in long-term applications. It distributes stress across a larger area, increasing friction resistance between the soil and the fabric, thereby preventing erosion.

2.4 Increased puncture resistance of geomembrane pond liners

When used as a protective layer, the 8 oz non woven geotextile enhances the puncture resistance of geomembrane liners in ponds or containment systems.

2.5 Soil separation for added stability

By using  8 oz non woven geotextile fabric to separate different soil layers, a stable interface is created, allowing each layer to function independently and contribute to the overall stability of the structure.

2.6 Reinforcement effect

The 8 oz non woven geotextile helps stabilize and limit displacement in civil engineering projects. It transfers or distributes localized stress across a larger area, enhancing the overall strength and stability of the structure.

2.7 Isolation

8 oz non woven geotextile fabric is effective in isolating different soil structures, creating stable interfaces between layers and allowing them to perform their specific functions as required.

8 oz non woven geotextile fabric is widely used to separate, filter, reinforce, stabilize, protect, retain and drain soil, etc.

3. Case Study of 8 Oz Non Woven geotextile New Zealand for Aquaculture

BPM New Zealand had a customer who sought to purchase geotextiles for an embankment engineering project related to aquaculture. Since this was their first time undertaking such a project, they lacked familiarity with geotextile materials and their application. To support them, BPM provided detailed geotextile laying procedures and reference videos at the early stage of the project.

During the laying process, the geotextile fabric was placed along the gravel surface in alignment with the direction of bank protection. It was crucial to ensure that the adjacent geotextiles overlapped with a length of no less than 1 meter. Considering the current state of temporary bank revetment construction, the geotextile laying was executed in two forms. For certain geotextiles, a width of at least 0.5 meters was left to allow smooth overlap with the second geotextile. During the second laying, the bottom edge should be connected with the first laying at the design elevation position, with the overlap length meeting the design requirements.

The total quantity of geotextile fabric utilized for the aquaculture project was 96,600 square meters. Each roll of geotextile had dimensions of 6 meters by 150 meters, and the specific non-woven geotextile used had a weight of 250 grams per square meter (gsm).

By providing comprehensive guidance on geotextile laying procedures and offering the appropriate 8 oz non woven geotextile fabric, BPM New Zealand assisted the customer in their aquaculture embankment engineering project. This support ensured that the geotextiles were correctly installed, enhancing the stability and functionality of the embankment for their aquaculture operations.
